Louis (age 4) had a very hard time transitioning.
He used to have a tantrum every time a transition occurred. We created an individualized visual schedule of his day for him to keep at his work station and shortly after the schedule was given to him he began to transition appropriately between activities.
He understood what he had to do in order to get to the next activity and it made it easier for him to accept the changes and carry them out. Through that visual schedule he was able to do what he was supposed to and the ‘transition tantrums’became extinct .
