Meet Johnny. Johnny (age 4) used to take a very long time eating his breakfast.
However, after we gave him a fun activity to look forward to, he knew he had to finish his first task in order to get to the second and this helped him tremendously.
We used a “First-Then Board”* to assist him so he understood what he needed to do.
*A First-Then Board provides motivation for a task that a child may not want to do by showing the less-desirable task first, and then the preferred task happening after they finish the first task. An example is shown below:
